The City of Decatur is seeking an experienced, collaborative and forward-thinking Fire Chief to lead the Fire Rescue Department. The ideal candidate will be a community-focused leader who is committed to strengthening relationships, reducing community risk, ensuring operational readiness and fostering an highly engaged and professional workforce.

The Decatur Fire Rescue Department (DFR) provides fire suppression, emergency medical services, rescue, fire prevention, and other emergency response services to the community. Beyond emergency response, DFR is deeply committed to community risk reduction through proactive fire prevention, public education, emergency preparedness initiatives, and collaborative partnerships that enhance community resilience and quality of life.

The Fire Chief is appointed by the City Manager and reports to the Assistant City Manager for Administrative Services. This recruitment is being conducted following the planned retirement of the current Fire Chief, who concludes a distinguished career of service to the City of Decatur and its community.

Starting salary range: $106,621 to $139,880 annually. The Department also provides a generous benefits package.
