The Cloquet Area Fire District has been awarded the prestigious “Local Government Innovations Award” for the Public and Nonprofit Leadership Center at the Humphrey Institute.
As a result of a regional master plan and feasibility study performed for Carlton County, Minnesota, ESCI recommended a legal merger of several fire districts in the northeast part of the county which included the City of Cloquet, Perch Lake Township, the City of Scanlon and the Fon Du Lac Tribal Reservation. With ESCI’s guidance and counsel on a process to get the state legislature to adopt a new section of statutes paving the way to enable fire districts to be formed, the state’s first independent fire district, the Cloquet Area FD, was created. This new entity has just been awarded the ‘Local Government Innovations Award’ from the Public and Nonprofit Leadership Center at the Humphrey Institute.
Originally created in 2006, The Humphrey Institute’s Center for Public and Nonprofit Leadership launched the awards program to recognize outstanding Minnesota local governments. Awards are given to cities, counties, and schools that have demonstrated results in improving local services in collaboration with public, nonprofit, and private organizations; increasing efficiency and cost effectiveness; and management process improvement.
Congratulations to the Cloquet Area Fire District on a job well done.
